Network Configuration

There are three different networks that are part of a 7FiveFive NAS installation, these are:

  • Frontend - This is what users connect to, to access file shares via SMB, AFP or NFS

  • Backend - This is used for inter-node cluster chatter and file movements

  • Management - This is used for the management of the system

It’s recommended to have each of these networks on their own VLAN, and also to avoid having the backend and frontend traffic pass-through firewalls. This is because of the high amount of packets that are being transmitted, which can often be bottlenecked and slowed by passing this through a firewall.
